Sawtooth Oak- Add one more to my favorite list! The fastest growing oak that I know of, this native of Asia is so widely adaptable as to be considered naturalized in many parts of North America. It has the tough as nails attitude of an oak and the speed of an Autumn Blaze Maple. Its rough 2 toned bark and dark green serrated leaves that turn a quiet yellow give this giant year-round interest. Usually available. Mature size 50’x40’

Amur Maple, Flame- A smaller, fast growing maple with excellent orange-red fall color. Can be in multi stem or shrub form, or small single stem tree. The multi stem is very useful as a hedge or windbreak. Limited availability. Mature size 20’x20’

Chanticleer Pear- A long time popular tree that has lined many driveways. Stately and upright with white spring blooms, dark green summer leaves and lovely purple red fall color. Usually available. Mature size 40’x15’

Chinese Pistache- A rounded irregular canopy and unusual compound leaves make this an excellent choice when something different is desired. Can be ugly as a small tree but with full sun grow into a lovely tree. Beautiful orange red fall color. Usually available. Mature size 30’x30’

Crimson Spire Oak- An excellent choice for smaller urban properties or street trees. Lovely dark green to bluish-green leaves that turn a pretty rusty red in fall. One of two columnar oaks we keep in stock. Usually available. Mature size 45’x15’

Everclear Elm- Similar to the Frontier, but narrower. An upright, columnar elm that is an excellent street tree with small dark green leaves and yellow fall color. Limited availability, I’d grow more if I could find them! Mature size 40’x25’

Exclamation Plane tree- Do I get several favorites? If so, this is one. Well behaved, fast grower. Large maple like medium green leaves with a slightly silver backside and 2 tone exfoliating bark make for an interesting tree all summer long. Yellow to brown fall color. Usually available. Mature size 55’x35’

Fire Fall Maple- Still fairly new on my farm. Same acer freemanii parentage as the Autumn Blaze but can be somewhat irregular in the nursery. Matures into a large stately shade tree with dark green leaves and lovely orange to red fall color. Limited availability. Mature size 50’x35’

Flashfire Maple- An excellent cultivar of the sugar maple family. Medium growth rate has proven extremely hardy on my nursery. (that’s saying something!) It may be another personal favorite. Gorgeous multi toned red fall color lasts longer than some other maples. Usually available. Mature size 45’x40’

Frontier Elm- No, elm is not a dirty word. Also not your grandparent’s elm. A hybrid that has done very well for us and in many field trials all over the Great Plains. Bark is slightly flaky like a lacebark elm. Vase-like oval canopy makes excellent shade with small glossy green leaves that turn a beautiful burgundy in the fall. Often sells out. Mature size 40’x30’

Autumn Blaze Maple- A long time favorite, with good reason. Fast growth rate, good drought tolerance and lovely bright red fall color make this one of our best sellers.  Often sells out so pick yours out early. Mature size 50’x40’

Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry- An upright, moderately spreading small tree with small edible fruit in summer, small white blooms in spring and nice red fall color. Available as single or multi stem. Limited availability. Mature size 20’x15’

Bald Cypress- A surprisingly Kansas hardy tree for one of the few that can flourish is standing water. An excellent choice for challenging site locations or where different fall colors or textures are desired. Medium green foliage is classified as “deciduous conifer”, has rusty red fall color. Usually available. Mature size 55’x30’

Indian Magic Crabapple- A smaller ornamental crabapple with deep pink spring bloom, dark green spreading foliage, and a persistent orange berry. This well-behaved tree is an excellent choice for small yards with year-round interest. Usually available. Mature size 15’x15’

A lovely columnar ornamental crabapple that has been around for a long time. A very much underplanted tree, there is a place in nearly every yard for this tree at only 8’ wide fully grown. Dark red spring flower gives way to purple to bronze-green foliage and a small dark red fruit. Excellent resistance to cedar apple rust. Usually available. Mature size 18’x8’

Red Pointe Maple- A very hardy moderately fast-growing red maple. Long lasting, multi toned red fall color just edges it past the Autumn Blaze onto my personal favorite list. Usually sells out so pick them early! Mature size 45’x30’

The other columnar oak I grow. Very hardy, happy in a broad range of soils including wet, heavy clay. Very dense with dark green leaves makes it an excellent privacy screen when planted closely in rows. Yellow fall color. Usually available. Mature size 45’x18’

The old faithful original cultivar. Just an excellent tree, every yard needs one. (Or 3!) I prefer a multi-stem. We try to get 3 or 4 symmetrical trunks. 2 toned exfoliating bark and graceful shapes give year-round interest. Glossy green leaves give way to bright yellow fall color. Prefers plenty of water in well-drained soils; I like to plant them in groups in raised garden beds. Also available in a single stem. Often sell out so pick yours early. The mature size for a clump of 3 is 40’x40. Single stem is a little narrower.

Our bestselling ornamental crabapple, it’s an improvement (in my opinion) on the old Prairie Fire Crabapple. A full, rounded top can be slightly irregular but makes an excellent specimen tree. Multi-toned to purple summer foliage gives way to orange-red fall color. Bright pinkish- red spring bloom, small ornamental red berries that stay on to give winter interest. Usually available. An aptly named tree. Very drought tolerant, seems to thrive on neglect. Tough, corky bark adds interest all year while dark green leaves look great throughout the hottest driest days of summer before giving way to nice yellow fall color. Upright oval shape grows to 55’x40’ at maturity. Usually available.

Relatively new to our farm, this thornless, seedless honey locust has been around the block a time or two. Literally, as it is a great street tree. Broadly pyramidal canopy with small fine textured medium green gives this tree a look different from oaks and maples. Beautiful golden yellow fall color and a rapid growth rate that doesn’t comprise durability make this tree a good choice for tough environments. Usually available. Mature size 45’x25’

An American elm that quickly grows into a large, stately graciously spreading tree. Medium-sized dense dark green foliage makes this an excellent shade tree. This tree is disease resistant and has performed very well. Beautiful yellow fall color. 70’x50’. Usually available
